There are 12 PH.D supervisors, 10 full professors, 18 associate professors, 10 lecturers, and 4 overseas returnees. The Department of Electrical Engineering is the director and leadership unit of the Power Electronics and Electric Drive Professional Committee of the China Automation Society, the unit of the Energy Internet Professional Committee of the China Automation Society (the affiliated unit), the Chairman unit of the Power Electronics and Electric Drive Professional Committee of the Liaoning Provincial Society for Electrical Engineering, the Chairman unit of the Electrotechnical Theory Professional Committee of Liaoning Provincial Society for Electrical Engineering, the initiative unit of Northeast Branch of IEEE Power & Energy Society in China, a council member unit of Energy Internet Equipment and Technology Branch of China Machinery Industry Federation and a member unit of Global Energy Interconnection.
The Department of Electrical Engineering has made remarkable achievements in scientific researches and engineering applications. For example, the Department has won a second prize of national technical invention, a second prize of national science and technology progress, a first prize of natural science of Ministry of Education and more than eight first prizes of provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. There are more than 10 international invention awards such as one excellent invention award of the 18th China Patent Award, one Gold Medal of the Geneva International Invention Exhibition, one Gold Medal of the Nuremberg International Invention Exhibition and one Gold Medal of Pittsburgh International Invention Exhibition. The Department has completed many national projects. For example, 1 project of 973 Program, 4 major projects/exploration projects of the National 863 High-Tech R&D Program, 1 major science and technology projects of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) (R&D expenses 11.96 million RMB), 4 Key Programs of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 National Natural Science Foundations for Distinguished Young Scholars of China, 26 General/Youth Programs of National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than 50 provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects such as Liaoning Province Science and Technology Research Projects, State Grid Corporation Projects and CNOOC Project. The Department of Electrical Engineering has published more than 200 papers in top international journals such as IEEE Transactions and Automatica. The total number of citations is more than 24,000, and there are more than 20 highly cited ESI papers. One paper published in IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics won the Andrew P. Sage Best Transactions Paper Award of IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society, and one paper won the Outstanding Paper Award of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, which is the top journal of computing intelligence and only one award paper is selected each year. This is the first team of mainland China scholars to receive this honor. The Department of Electrical Engineering attaches great importance to basic research, high-tech development and transformation of scientific research achievements. In recent years, more than 230 invention patents has been applied and authorized, and high-precision leak detection and positioning technologies for fluid pipeline networks and complex distribution network monitoring and control system have been developed, respectively. These achievements have been widely applied, and the direct economic benefit has reached 1.329 billion RMB in the past three years.
The Department of Electrical Engineering has achieved fruitful results and has made outstanding achievements in talents cultivation. For example, more than 100 national, provincial/ministerial and scholastic teaching achievement awards; more than 20 influential academic monographs and textbooks; a national-level quality course (national quality resource sharing class); two Liaoning Province excellent courses; 1 national quality textbook; 3 Liaoning Province quality textbooks; 2 Liaoning Province teaching teams. Up to now, the Department of Electrical Engineering has directed 17 postdoctoral fellows (6 fellows have already finished the cooperation research), trained more than 100 Ph.D degree students and more than 500 Master degree graduated students. Among them, 6 persons won the provincial-level excellent Doctoral dissertation award, 1 person won the national 100 outstanding Doctoral theses nomination award, and many people won the University-level outstanding doctoral and master thesis award. The supervised students have won more than 200 international and domestic prizes, such as the international/domestic mathematical modeling contests, the Challenge Cup of National College Student, the National College Robot Competition, the National Electronic Design Competition, and the International and Domestic Robot Competition.
The Department of Electrical Engineering has an advanced research platform and strong research conditions. In order to meet the needs of the new situation, the Department of Electrical Engineering took the lead in setting up an electrical innovation experimental zone in Northeastern University. The innovative experimental zone relies on the national electrical and electronic experimental teaching center to train electric application talents. In addition, the Department of Electrical Engineering collaborates with leading companies at home and abroad to jointly establish high-level teaching and research laboratories. At present, it has established advanced technology joint laboratories with many international famous companies such as Schneider Electric, Rockwell and Mitsubishi.
The Department of Electrical Engineering has a national labor model innovation studio, a first batch of “National University Huang Danian Style Teacher Teams”, and a first batch of “Double Leader” secretary studios of teacher Party branch of national universities. In addition, the Department of Electrical Engineering has won many honorary titles such as provincial, municipal and scholastic advanced Party branch, the three-education advanced group, and the May Fourth Youth Civilization Awards. Looking forward to the future, the Department of Electrical Engineering will continue to face the needs of the country, aim at the frontiers of the discipline, and actively build a world-class electrical engineering discipline, so as to cultivate outstanding leading talents and continue to promote the advancement of electrical frontier science and technology.
