报告题目:Topology Optimization for the Design of Structures and Materials

Abstract: The art of structure is how and where to put holes, which can be perfectly implemented via the method of topology optimization. This report will introduce how to design multi-phase structures using a Cahn-Hilliard model so that they are featured with the maximal stiffness or minimal mean compliance. It also shows the application of structural topology optimization to the design of advanced materials which are composed of spatially self-repeated represented elements (unit cells). A homogenization method is used to extract the effective properties in terms of the material distribution within the unit cell and the material is redistributed to tailor the properties using the method of structural topology optimization.

 

Resume:Dr Zhou is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering at RMIT University. He obtained PhD from the Chinese University of Hong in Mechanical and Automation Engineering in 2006. Before joining RMIT in 2011, He worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Sydney. Zhou’s research focuses primarily on structural topology optimization, computational material design, bioengineering and image processing, with over 150 technical publications in these areas. His three research projects were supported by Australia Research Council (ARC). Up to date, he has supervised/co-supervised eight PhD at University of Sydney and RMIT. He received ARC Discovery Early Career Research Award in 2011 and 1000 Youth Talents Program in 2012.
